Airsoft team Leadership and Organization day 5
Sub commanders are important.
Always appoint a Second in command (2I/C)
Self explanatory. Make sure your second in command knows they have been promoted and what their duties are. Its important to know the difference between the leaders responsibilities and the duties they perform. First the easy one, the second in command takes over when the leader isn’t there. However he has other duties as well. The leader usually handles organization and command tasks and the second deals with equipment and administration.
Here is an example. Your going from point A to B. The commander will plan the route, organize transport and brief the Airsofters to the plan. The second in command will make sure everyone’s water bottle is full, mags ready to go, batteries charged and deal with any minor problems so when the team commander gets the plan finished everyone is ready to go.
Every commander will have a 2I/C, The platoon commander will have his platoon 2I/C, The section commander will have his Section 2I/C
Appoint sub commanders
The smallest organization in a squad is the Team. The team is two people, A senior is teamed with a junior. Note this is not to be confused with an Airsoft Club, the total group.
Sub commanders help make organization easier and commands quicker. If there are multiple tasks to perform you can delegate by group.
This is covered in the Airsoft squad organization post
Instead of “Johnny, Bob, Frank and Mat attack the trench, George and Lenny give covering fire” it is faster and easier to say “one and two group attack the trench, three group give covering fire”. Commands are faster and easier.
This also works for tasking, if two sections are sent off on a specific mission, let someone know they are in charge of it. They may have two commands at once, in this case squad commander AND commander of the tasking.
