Regiment Airsoft club leadership and Organization day 8
Respect your sub commanders.
Don’t ever correct or discipline your sub commanders or 2 I/C in front the lower ranks. If you have a problem with the people you directly supervise take them aside and have the discussion privately. There are two reasons for this, first the sub commanders loose respect from their people in the club and second it saves you from making an ass of your self if your wrong. It happens. If you assign them to do a task, let them do it, let them go all the way threw and make the mistakes. Correct them afterwards when they are done. If one of your people is teaching a class stay out of it. If you have a problem with the way the class has been taught or you have words of wisdom to add, take the person aside at the end and correct them, let them go back with the correction or the words of wisdom. One person teaches a class, not one teacher and two senior people chiming in every few minutes.
Your Airsofters are a reflection of you.
Another common mistake that new leaders make is they blame their sub-commanders for failure. The common claim is the Airsoft Club members are stupid or lazy. Guess what, your people are a reflection of you. If they are stupid, your stupid. Its a failure on your part to properly develop the Club you command. As already stated your responsible for the direct supervision of four people, that’s it. As the leader its your responsibility to develop them to their fullest and have them do the same to their subordinates. This is another reason to “Not work, Supervise”. You need to find out where the problems lie and fix it. Is the problem somewhere down the chain or higher up? Is the problem one person or a overall issue?
