Airsoft Cannons

Airsoft Cannons.

Cannons are traditionally big bore line of site guns. The gunners firing directly at a target.

Three main types of airsoft cannons. Static, safe and dangerous.

Fields will sometimes have deactivated or home built cannons. They don’t do much aside from being an objective to capture in the game. Home built versions are commonly made of PVC and can get quite detailed.

Most airsoft artillery is glorified potato cannons, so if building one this forum is a good place to start.

The problem with PVC is it is susceptible to wear and tear more so than metal. Check safety guide lines before building, operating and use. PVC has the additional problem of negative reaction to chemicals, while Copper and steel are much more resilient. It is important to keep the PSI much lower than the recommended maximum in home built cannons opposed to metal due to the weaker material.

This inst a license to build a steel cannon and crank up the velocity. You are still required to keep it in the safe range. What is the safe range??? That depends on the projectile. When in doubt lower the velocity and always aim for the worst case scenario, hitting someone point blank, If someone will survive the hit without injury your within the safety parameters.

Cannons on field do ad another fun element to the game. being a gunner is also fun, just make user you have team mates supporting you. Just remember special weapons are ball magnets and you are target #1.

The most common ammo for airsoft artillery of all sorts is the Nerf vortex rockets. Light weight, soft, and durable.

Here is the best example of an airsoft cannon (despite what the tile of the video reads), The cannon features “blow back action” and auto ejecting shells. Quite a amazing build.

Cannons are best served with a crew. Loader, gunner, spotter and a commander if you want to go that far. The titles are self explanatory. Practice with your team before play and change around locations so everyone knows their job with the team.
